—National Breastfeeding Awareness Month—

“On August 6, 2011, the United States Breastfeeding Committee (USBC) officially declared that August is National Breastfeeding Month. USBC’s role is to advance breastfeeding on our Nation’s agenda through collaboration, leadership, and advocacy, so that all U.S. families will have the opportunity to breastfeed.”

Insight on Melanie’s breastfeeding journey!

Happy National Breastfeeding Awareness Month!

Melanie shares her breastfeeding journey and provides the audience with an understanding of just how much has changed in regards to breastfeeding in only the last 20 years! This interview was a great way to close out this series of National Breastfeeding Awareness Month because we can truly see the value of change and its impacts.

She was able to cover behind the scenes; She has a friend who was asking her about how she is breastfeeding and working. In that conversation, she shared with her friend that her workplace allows for her to use an office space that is secure and will enable her to pump privately and comfortably. At that moment, her friend shared 20 years earlier when she was breastfeeding, she worked at Round Table Pizza and had to pump in the public restroom in a stall.

Melanie shares, “Nowadays you go to the Golden 1 center or a variety of other locations, and there is dedicated space for breastfeeding spaces where womxn can feed and pump! Times have changed for the better.”
