What is a Health Educator?

Health Educators are charged with providing individual, classroom, and campus-wide health education and health coaching services. They are also responsible for facilitating a peer education program. A challenge they face during COVID-19 is fulfilling community and campus outreach duties due to limitations. They are no longer able to host events in person, and this presents a learning curve. They became inspired and sought assistance with strategy and guidance after tuning into National Health Center Week. Sharing our experience with hosting virtual events throughout National Health Center Week has helped them brainstorm similar ways to host their planned 2020 events.

In August 2020, we partnered with Administrative Assistant Patricia Gutierrez at La Clinica de La Raza to collaboratively host a virtual celebration for National Health Center Week. Please click the linked events below to check out all the phenomenal community work and accomplishments from those collaborative efforts. After National Health Center Week, we had drawn some attention to the new and adaptable ways to continue to do outreach even when our world is unfamiliar and limited. We were asked to present to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital and BAYAC Americorps Health Educators our efforts and strategy to execute the week-long celebration. The truth is we were able to do it by simply following the four phases of project management! Access “The Ultimate Guide To Project Management In Four Phases” below! You do not want to miss this all-inclusive guide for staying on course during COVID-19.

After hosting this workshop and hearing the Health Educators’ feedback, we decided to create an additional resource that fosters well-being during these challenging times. A tool commonly used within project management catered to setting objectives and the world’s most popular way to set goals, the SMART Model! Peter Drucker and G.T. Doran created this model. It is common to see various versions for the break down of ‘SMART’ we decided to use the breakdown listed and linked below! The activity we put together is inspired by this workshop and emphasizes the importance of mental health by setting well-being goals. We hope that using this resource to implement objectives and goals in your life will allow you to use the model effectively when planning for a big project!
